As with most of us, the coming year’s end is a time where we look back over the year, hopefully without too many regrets. It’s also the time where we feel the excitement of a new year fast approaching, ripe with new possibilities.
For the first time in almost two decades, Hedreich will be celebrating Thanksgiving, Christmas and the New Year on the home shores of Texas. After many seasons performing and singing on wonderful stages all over Europe, this year will be a quiet departure from the status quo, setting the stage for a whole new chapter. But in the meantime, she’ll be sharing sounds and images of performances gone by. Stop in over the next few weeks for a few highlights like this one. Watch out, Glee!!
Music, drama and dance, that’s what it’s all about coming up to the new school year. Hedreich has launched M&A, a performing arts school without walls to take music and the arts directly to the people! In addition to doing seminars and workshops for adults and teens, M&A gives Hedreich the opportunity to share the gift of music with the younger set. Focusing on children ages 2 to 12, Hedreich has created a set of classes to introduce children to basic theory and technique in singing, dramatic interpretation and creative movement and dance. In a fun and nurturing environment, even the most bashful children build self-esteem and gain confidence not only for performance but for life. Because the classes can be individually tailored to meet the needs of a specific age group or student sub-set, M&A can offer the benefits of ongoing fine arts education to smaller schools and home-schooling centers as well as in classes or special projects for after-school programs or larger campuses. This coming semester’s master syllabus has some great song and dance highlights so if you miss your favorite episode of Glee, keep an eye out for an M&A class or performance near you!
Re-launch!
This year has been a year full of big changes for our favorite singer and teacher. For those of us who follow her tweets, we’ve not been quite sure which continent she’s on at any given moment.
So for inquiring minds, Hedreich was on hand for Jeff Strain, long time friend and CEO of Amante International to answer a few questions about the reasons behind the re-launch of hedreich.com.

Marfa Lights
Just as Marfa, Texas is known for it’s preternatural light display, the 3rd anniversary concert of Padre’s will definitely be remembered for keeping with the region’s reputation! The exceptional idea of having 3 divas in the desert performing for an eclectic and illustrious audience from just about everywhere, made for a musical manifestation that equaled any one seen on the horizon. With a red-hot rhythm section carrying melodies from Hedreich as well as Caretta Bell, April Sloan-Hubert and Horace Alexander Young on Sax, the program was as diverse as it was consummately entertaining.
On another note, this will be the last post before hedreich.com goes 2.0. Nothing too radical, just a few TNG tweaks here and there. Stop back by late Friday for the launch and an interview with our favorite singer by Jeff Strain of Amante International.
Summer Is Here
With Spring Sing and grad-uation performances all done there’s only one thing left to do: Singsong into summer! As the educational season ends, Hedreich opens up the with a festival performance at the cult venue Padre’s in Marfa. How Low Can You Go!
What’s more fun for a choir director than a really good choir? A really good choir with ELEVEN basses! Eleven Good Basses! In a world where lack of male voices is the rule rather than the exception, 11 basses is almost unheard of. In the Stanser ad hoc choir, this was the perfect foundation for the warm and voluminous sound the singers built during a weekend workshop with Hedreich. Covering the spectrum from Hawkins/Donald Lawrence to Newsboys, the audience got to hear a myriad of styles and rhythms from different kinds of music deemed appropriate for church and worship services. Hedreich even managed to include a short history lesson comparing and contrasting field song versions of Negro Spirituals to “Tuskegee-style” European choral versions. The workshop and ensuing concert were the perfect testament to what can be accomplished when fun, fast-paced teaching meets concentration and talent. As for what’s up next? Remembering Our Forefathers
The Voice, American Idol, name-a-country’s Got Talent… wherever you hear the newest generation of singers you hear the strains of Aretha, Ella, Luther, Michael, Chuck, Duke, Basie, Scott and all those who have gone before. From African Griots to field hollers, from ragtime to Rock ‘n’ Roll, from Bebop to Hip Hop, the influence is immeasurable and ever-present. Without the African-American experience in the US, the music of the world would not be what it is today. Hedreich shared this message in a fun and informative presentation with the Sagamore Hill student body. Our favorite music and performing arts workshop leader did a morning music and drama workshop and in the afternoon, directed a student cast of 17 students in a theatrical presentation about music history. Their performance was stellar, applause was thunderous and the students and teachers were especially blown away when Hedreich sang her classic rendition of “Listen”. Expect more educational seminars in the near future as Hedreich expands her student base in the US. Stop back by to see if something is planned in your area.

Quick Trip
She’s here. No, she’s there. No, wait, where is she?!
Don’t bat an eye or you’ll surely miss everybody’s favorite singing commuter. After a few days in the US, Hedreich boarded the train–ahh, make that plane–and headed to Switzerland for a benefit concert with the local Adliswil orchestra. With guests from the organization insieme, Hedreich and the musicians were able to spread joy and even make music with the concert-goers. It was a wonderful experience for everyone present and worth a weekend of international travel 100 times over.
Starting Off Right
“Start off like you’re gonna finish up”. So goes the old adage and if 2012 is to end up like it has started, it will be a very good year. After singing for the Southern Glarus New Year’s Day/ first birthday service, Hedreich started gearing up for 100 Years in Music at the Kulturbuehne Lihn, high above Lake Walen. The concert sold out within days of being publicized. A special musical journey through the last century with pianist Greg Galli, the event promises to be an intimate evening of song and tale. And the best news? A Sunday matinee has been added so there’s still time to be a part of this very special evening.
