Easy As ABC

Sometimes it’s not the big stages, the sold out concert halls or the Baroque churches. Sometimes it’s watching young Mr. Landin play “Watermelon Man” on his first gig with a live band or watching “Uncle Sonny” sing “My Girl” for the first time in 40 years. It’s singing Gladys’ “I got ta go’ in harmony with Miss Lynn and playing MD with your Sunday morning band doing Saturday night music. And sometimes it’s watching the mantel pass as your son sings the Jackson 5 hits of the Michael Jackson we 70’s kids remember from our childhood. Sometimes it’s easy as ABC and Music doesn’t get any better than that!

Spring has Sprung

Spring came early this year as Hedreich started the 2013 concert year off on the beautiful island of Kauai. St Michaels was the host of not only two evenings of the finest Jazz but also two Jazz Masses featuring the choral and instrumental arrangements of Grammy Governor Matt Lemmler. All four performances featured incredible international talent in both instrumental and vocal music. Hedreich delighted the crowds with her usual aplomb and charm, even pulling out some mad scat skills together with the phenomenal Greta Matassa.

How Low Can You Go!

What’s more fun for a choir director than a really good choir? A really good choir with ELEVEN basses! Eleven Good Basses! In a world where lack of male voices is the rule rather than the exception, 11 basses is almost unheard of. In the Stanser ad hoc choir, this was the perfect foundation for the warm and voluminous sound the singers built during a weekend workshop with Hedreich. Covering the spectrum from Hawkins/Donald Lawrence to Newsboys, the audience got to hear a myriad of styles and rhythms from different kinds of music deemed appropriate for church and worship services. Hedreich even managed to include a short history lesson comparing and contrasting field song versions of Negro Spirituals to “Tuskegee-style” European choral versions. The workshop and ensuing concert were the perfect testament to what can be accomplished when fun, fast-paced teaching meets concentration and talent. As for what’s up next? More teaching, more seminars and showcase concerts. Make sure to stop back by or keep up with the minute by minute on twitter or facebook. Better yet, make it a virtual trifecta!

Starting Off Right

“Start off like you’re gonna finish up”. So goes the old adage and if 2012 is to end up like it has started, it will be a very good year. After singing for the Southern Glarus New Year’s Day/ first birthday service, Hedreich started gearing up for 100 Years in Music at the Kulturbuehne Lihn, high above Lake Walen. The concert sold out within days of being publicized. A special musical journey through the last century with pianist Greg Galli, the event promises to be an intimate evening of song and tale. And the best news? A Sunday matinee has been added so there’s still time to be a part of this very special evening.

Countowndown to 2012

With ESC a thing of the past and only 3 appearances till the holidays, Hedreich is already working on next year’s line-up. An exciting year with live concerts and master classes, it looks like the singing commuter will be able to rack up quite a few frequent flyer miles! And if you are in the mood for song and comedy, Hedreich will be making her “Mad”-esque debut on Nachtfieber in Olten just before ringing in the new year. It’ll be a great evening of comedy and song. Don’t miss it!

As if that isn’t enough excitement, Friday in Chatel St. Denis was the Swiss Army Concert Band’s 2010 season opener and a worthy start it was! Hedreich was in her element as she added the feminine shine to the world class military orchestra with songs like “Everybody Loves A Lover” , “What Now My Love” and the signature “Listen” which you’ll remember from Art on Ice 2009.

Culture in the Cellar

The long awaited day finally arrived. On Friday evening Hedreich invited fans, music lovers and hosts of new ears to a concert that once again put her incredible talent on display. The Kulturkeller Preisig in Richterswil provided the perfect backdrop for an intimate and unforgettable concert. The sold-out crowd waited expectantly for the star of the evening—finally the moment came. It was a world class show. For over 90 minutes Hedreich and the Boyz took listeners on a musical journey through her musical homeland with specially chosen songs from a myriad of genres. It was all there, from country to Jazz, R& B and soulful ballads. Naturally she presented titles from her new Album Time Now giving the audience a concert that left nothing wanting—except another encore. Laying the very groovy floor was a top notch band with Tom Gisler on Keys, Randy Müller on Guitar and Jost Müller on percussion. And of course Hedreich wouldn’t be Hedreich had she not gotten the audience in on the act. Her music filled the Kulturkeller, built in 1604, not only with pearls of culture but with a freeing charisma that cast a spell on house and hearer alike.

On Swine Flu and Gospel…

Weeeeellll, the Tibiz gig did take place this time. But if you read the Blick (Switzerland’s answer to the Enquirer) you know that Tanja Dankner didn’t make it because of virus du jour H1N1. Still, with Nubya subbing for her and Hedreich previewing songs from her upcoming CD, a good time was definitely had by all. Hedreich.com’s Simon Gisler was even on hand with a mike in his hand! And on the home front, barring any major illnesses or minor ones requiring mass quarantine, this Sunday will see the 11th annual concert of the Inspirational Singers in the Netstal Protestant Church at 5PM. The concert come to be known in Glarnerland as the start of the Advent season. In case you don’t make it, stop back by next week to get the details! In the mean time, we’ll leave a light on for ya…
